The First Mass in the Philippines was held on 31 March 1521 on the island of Limasawa, Southern Leyte by the expedition of Ferdinand Magellan. Also the first baptism in the country, it marked the start of centuries of Catholic influence, making the Philippines the only predominantly Roman Catholic country in Asia. Magellan ordered the expedition's chaplain, Fray Pedro de Valderrama, to celebrate Easter Sunday mass. It was only a few days after the blood compact between Magellan and Rajah Kolambu of Leyte; because of this alliance, the rajah allowed Magellan and his men to come ashore to celebrate mass. Rajah Kolambu was also invited to the mass along with Rajah Siagu of Butuan, his brother.

Hi there Chynna! I remember the days when my classmates and I were too excited to enter a university. How time flies! Choosing what course to take is surely one of the hardest decisions to make in life.

The most basic consideration when choosing a college course is knowing what you want, something you've always wanted to get into. You can also go for a career assessment care of your local guidance office to make choosing a college course systematic and easier. Know what you're good at by assessing your skills and talents. Consider your values (fulfillment, meaning and fulfillment, altruism, etc) to help you determine what you would like to get out of a career besides material compensation. Look forward and assess your commitment to your chosen path. Be sure if you possess the skills and the patience to go the distance. You also need to look at the career options available within this major. A certain course may offer a diploma upon completion but doesn't guarantee a job. Check out the job placement statistics of others who have pursued your chosen degree. Keep these things in mind but be sure to follow your heart.

Dogeaters is a novel written by Jessica Hagedorn, published in 1990. The novel depicts the rich culture and society of the Philippines during the tumultuous period of Martial Law by contrasting and intertwining the lives of various characters from two different times. Rio reminisces about her family and the Philippines while Joey tries to survive after witnessing an assassination during Martial Law. It earned an American Book Award and a nomination for the Philippine National Book Awards in 1990.

  • March 28, 1907 - Governor James Francis Smith issued peace certificate which declared that since the publication of the Philippine Census in 1905 there had been no serious disturbances of the public order save those by outlaws and religious fanatics. He added that the great mass of the Filipino people for the previous two years had been "law-abiding, peaceful and loyal to the United States". The said certification was required by the Philippine Bill of 1902 for the establishment of the Philippine Assembly.
  • March 28, 1979 - President Ferdinand Marcos signed into law Cabinet Bill No. 15 also known as the Dairy Industry Development Act of 1979. Its aim was to accelerate the production, processing, marketing and distribution of local milk products. The Philippine Dairy Corporation (PDC) was created to be the lead government dairy agency tasked to carry out these objectives.

Ruperto Kangleon was a Filipino military figure and politician. He was a legend in the resistance movement during the Japanese occupation. He first earned distinction as an all-around athlete for the First Philippines Olympic team sent abroad (1912-1913).
